Ruby, a variety of the mineral corundum, forms deep within the Earth under immense heat and pressure.  This intense environment causes aluminum and oxygen atoms to bond together, creating the crystal structure of corundum. The presence of trace amounts of chromium within the crystal lattice imparts the ruby's distinctive red color, ranging from pinkish to deep crimson hues.

Excellent

I love these so much, out of the two strands that I bought there were only a total of three that didn't seem to have any Ruby showing, but I used them anyway because they make a really cool rough and rugged necklace individually. All of the rest had a lot of Ruby showing some on both sides some only on one side.
